Emergency Nurse Practitioner Minor Injury Module

We are pleased to announce that Addenbrooke's hospital will be running a Minor Injury Course for nurses who are looking to develop skills in autonomous practice in dealing with patients with minor injuries.

 

The course will be run by the Emergency Nurse Practitioner (ENP) service of Addenbrooke's Hospital.

The ENP service was introduced to the Emergency Department six years ago. Today it is an efficient, effective team of fifteen full time ENP’s with a wealth of knowledge and experience.

 

The aim of the module is to prepare experienced registered nurses working within emergency, primary care and walk-in environments to provide a high level of autonomous care for patients presenting with minor trauma.

 

 

Teaching will be provided by experienced nurse practitioners, Emergency Department Consultants and Specialist Registrars from various specialities.

The content of the course will include:

• The Emergency Nurse Practitioner, professional and legal issues
• History taking, Assessment and Documentation
• Radiology
• Upper Limb
• Hand/Digits
• Lower Limb
• Knee
• Wounds/Burns
• Eyes
• Ear and Nose Trauma
• Maxillofacial  
• Paediatric minor trauma.

 

The module will be a total of 400 hours. This is broken down into:

• 90 hours of lectures, discussion and demonstration.
• 37.5 hours of supervised practice at Addenbrooke's Hospital
• 15 hours of OSCE (Observed Structured Examination)
• 7.5 hours of Case presentations
• 150 hours of supervised practice in students own working areas.
• 100 hours of self directed study.
