Dawn Chapman
Staff at Addenbrooke’s feature in the New Year’s Honours list.
Dawn Chapman, nurse consultant, has been made an MBE for services to breast cancer health care. Dawn has worked here since the 1960s and is based in the breast unit where she leads clinics and co-ordinates patient care.
Dawn heard the news while on holiday in Norfolk and celebrated with a well-deserved glass of champagne.
She said: “I’m stunned. Its unbelievable news and just not the sort of thing I ever expected to happen to me. It’s also good news for the hospital. I’m very pro-Addenbrooke’s as I’ve been here since 1967 – it’s like a second home to me. I believe the breast unit is among the best in the country and I think this honour helps raise the profile even further."
Dawn, among the first nurse consultants appointed at Addenbrooke’s in 2006, has also been heavily involved in a new training programme at Anglia Ruskin University, Cambridge. The advanced clinical practice course in breast care attracts hundreds of students from across the country.
Dr Robert Winter has been made an OBE for services to the NHS. Dr Winter was medical director for six years at Addenbrooke’s before stepping down earlier this year to become medical director for NHS East of England. He continues his clinical duties here as a respiratory physician.
