On Monday 14 July, Addenbrooke's staff will be leaving their cars at home and putting on their walking shoes for the hospital's first ever Walk to Work event.

Bonnie Watson, who is organising the event, says: “Staff can get involved however they travel to work. They can walk or cycle if they live nearby, or get off the bus early and walk the rest of the way. We're designating bus stops no more than a mile from the site on all access routes, and staff who get off and walk from there will have £1 of their fare donated to Addenbrooke's Charitable Trust by Stagecoach or the H1 Shuttle Bus."

Walk to Work is part of Addenbrooke's Life, a new initiative developed to promote health and wellbeing for staff. The campaign helps staff think about healthier options whilst also raising money. Bonnie Watson says: “We want to give people who work on the Addenbrooke's site more opportunities to be active and get involved. The Walk to Work will encourage staff to be more healthy by making small changes to their lifestyle that can have a big impact on long-term health. Things like this will help get people on their way to the recommended 30 minutes of physical activity five times a week."

The day launches a new 'Think Green' campaign, which aims to promote environmental sustainability on the hospital site.
