The first 'Walk to Work' day on 14 July 2008 has been hailed as a great success. Around 650 staff members took part, walking, cycling or getting off their bus one stop early and walking the rest of the way. Organiser, Bonnie Watson, said: "The success of this event has exceeded our expectations! We are planning future Walk to Work days as part of the Addenbrooke's Life programme and are already thinking of ways to make them even bigger and better." Here's how the Cambridge Evening News reported on the event:
First steps to healthy living

HOSPITAL staff swapped their cars for walking shoes to join in with a green campaign. Addenbrooke's Hospital held its first "walk to work" day yesterday, launching a 'Think Green' campaign aimed at promoting environmental sustainability on the hospital site.
Bonnie Watson, who organised the event, said: "We want to give people who work on the Addenbrooke's site more opportunities to be active and get involved. The walk to work will encourage staff to be more healthy by making small changes to their lifestyle which can have a big impact on long-term health."
Some staff walked and cycled, while others got off their bus early and walked. For bus travellers, £1 from every fare was donated to the Addenbrooke's Charitable Trust by Stagecoach Cambridgeshire or the H1 Shuttle Bus.
The walk was part of the 'Addenbrooke's Life' initiative, to promote staff health.
