Hospital staff keeping fit

A health testing day and a football tournament are the latest events to be organised for staff at Addenbrooke’s and the Rosie hospitals.

 

Both events are organised by Addenbrooke’s Life – an initiative which aims to promote health and wellbeing among all staff.

 

The health testing and awareness day offers advice on healthy eating, exercise and fitness and an opportunity for blood pressure, body fat and weight to be measured. The tests and advice, which are carried out in private, give staff a helping hand to becoming fitter and healthier. The event is on Tuesday 27 January.

 

The first inter-departmental football tournament takes place on Sunday 25 January and features 10 teams from across Addenbrooke’s and the Rosie. Winners will receive their trophies from Cambridge United players, who will be among the spectators for a change. The tournament takes place on an outdoor pitch at the Frank Lee Centre – the health and fitness centre based on the Addenbrooke’s site.

 

Bonnie Watson, Addenbrooke’s Life co-ordinator, said: “We aim to make sure all our staff are fit and healthy and events such as these help to do just that. It’s not just about physical fitness, we want to make sure staff are happy and have plenty of opportunities to socialise with like-minded people and try new things."

 

Addenbrooke’s Life was launched last year and has organised events such as free staff massages and a hugely popular walk to work day, where hundreds of staff took a break from public transport or their cars to commute.

 

Activities are raising awareness of a recently-launched NHS campaign called Change 4 Life which encourages people to make small changes to their lifestyles, such as improving their diets. For more on the campaign, visit www.nhs.uk/Change4Life
