More than 200 photographs have been hung in wards, waiting rooms and clinics at Addenbrooke’s – and every picture was taken by a member of staff at the hospital.
The collection showcases a wide range of photographs – from tropical beaches to panoramic shots of rainforests to close-ups of insects and flowers.
A total of 220 photographs are now on display in the Addenbrooke’s Treatment Centre (ATC) taken by 18 staff – including nurses, administrators, the Director of Intensive Care along with several staff who work in the hospital’s media studio, where internal graphic design work and medical photography is carried out.
‘Beach – Isla Mujeres, Mexico’ by Jo Morris
The project has been spearheaded by Addenbrooke’s Arts, which printed, mounted and framed the pictures.
Damian Hebron, co-ordinator of Addenbrooke’s Arts, said: “The generosity of staff in contributing their photos for free to this project has just been fantastic. The photos look great and I think they’ll make a real difference for patients in the ATC.”
Jo Morris, PR and Marketing Manager for Addenbrooke’s Charitable Trust, was among staff to have pictures chosen for the permanent displays.
She said: "I have always been a keen photographer and traveller and I took this series of photos on a trip around Mexico, which is such a beautiful country with so many vibrant colours and contrasts. I entered these images because I thought they would help lift the spirits of patients in the ATC. I am delighted and very proud to have my photos on display for people to enjoy."
Catherine Lamoon, Head of Photography, captured some stunning scenery during her honeymoon to the Maldives. One of her seaside snaps is now on display close to ATC main reception.
She said: I entered this photograph to show one of the great aspects of the island - the view! I hoped patients could drift away in the image, imaging the sound of the waves and the smell of sea.”
