Alcohol Awareness

13 October, 2009

Alcohol Awareness Week

Have you ever had a glass of wine and realised half the bottle has gone or been to the pub and lost count on how many drinks you have had? If you answered 'yes' you are not alone. But did you know you are likely to have exceeded your recommended daily allowance and could be harming your health?

With Christmas on the way and the Christmas parties in the planning process, this is the perfect time to make sure you are clued up about alcohol.

How much alcohol is safe to drink?

The recommended daily sensible drinking guidelines are 2-3 units for women and 3-4 units for men.

I only drink when I go out at the weekend so can i add up all my allowances over the week?

No, binge drinking can have a serious impact on your health.

What  easy changes can i make to help me to drink more sensibly?

Change to a low alcohol drink, eat before you drink, have a soft drink at intervals throughout the night and don't allow people to keep topping up your drink!

You can test your drinking habits today by visiting the NHS Drink Check quiz

Remember never drink and drive or get in the car with someone who has been drinking.
