Additional wheelchairs for visitors have arrived!

The group set up to give young people a voice at Addenbrooke’s is running an Easter holiday event at the hospital to raise awareness of its work, gather new ideas, and enlist recruits.
ACTIVE – the hospital’s children’s and teenagers’ board – is made up of more than 20 young people aged from eight to 18. Some are current or past patients, while others are siblings or other children who have a reason to get involved. They meet regularly to work on projects with hospital staff.
Tori Clifton, the group’s over-16s chair, said: “ACTIVE is here to improve the services and facilities provided to children and young people when they come into hospital. We want to make more people aware of our work, and to listen to the opinions of patients and their families.

“If you’ve got an idea that could make Addenbrooke’s a better place for children then please let us know – and if you’re interested in joining us then we’re always looking out for new members. Young people’s opinions count, and together we can make a difference.”
Tori and her colleagues will set up their stall in Clinic 6 – part of the outpatients department – from 2pm to 4pm on Monday 11 April and from 10am-12pm on Tuesday 12 April. They hope to entertain children attending the clinic with Easter-themed fun and games whilst telling them about ACTIVE.

Recent projects for the group have included an award-winning makeover for ward D2’s garden, a new website (www.childrenataddenbrookes.org.uk) specifically designed with age-appropriate information for children coming into Addenbrooke’s, and a large poster explaining the different uniforms worn by hospital staff.
Anyone interested in getting involved can find out more by e-mailing ACTIVE at active@addenbrookes.nhs.uk or by speaking to Kirsty Lothian on 01223 349272.
