Presentations were made to staff who have achieved 10, 20, 30 and 40 years’ service.

In total staff receiving their long service awards have clocked up a staggering 5,500 years of work for the Trust.

  • 291 staff members achieved 10 years of service
  • 90 members of staff have worked for the Trust for 20 years
  • 21 clocked up 30 years’ service
  • And three have been with CUH for an amazing 40 years

Gareth said: “This is a celebration of your dedication, commitment and service to the patients and the community. I salute you all and on behalf of the Trust and the patients you serve and the community you serve I say a huge, massive thank you for that commitment and service.”

As well as the long service achievements 112 members of staff who retired this year were thanked for their hard work. Between them the retirees have collected over 1000 years of service.

On presenting the retirement prizes Mary said: “It’s great that so many of our retirees have come back to see us today and I hope that you will come back often.”

Clinical leader Lynn Wright from the theatre scrub team has been with CUH for 40 years and began her career as a student nurse on the Trumpington Street site.

She said: “I have seen a lot of changes over the years. I suppose the biggest is the technology. It’s amazing to see what we can do now. It’s a lot more complex.”

Lynn will be retiring next year and is going to miss her colleagues in theatre:  “I’ve never been out of work before so it will be strange to have all this time free. I will miss the people. Theatres attracts really close knit people and I will miss the team very much.”
