Mealtime volunteers needed to help patients

8 June, 2011

The voluntary services team at CUH is looking for caring people with good communication skills to be trained up as mealtime volunteers.

Patient nutrition is very important to recovery and there are a significant number of patients needing assistance at mealtimes. Volunteers will be able to help in the following ways:

  • ensuring patients can access their food
  • cutting up a patient's food
  • offering alternative choices if a patient does not want to eat their meal
  • feeding patients
  • offering drinks

Volunteers need to be aged 18 or over and be able to commit to one session a week over a lunchtime (11:00-13:00) or evening meal period (16/16:30-18/18:30) for a minimum of six months.

There will be a two hour training session followed by two training sessions on the ward with a nutrition assistant.
