17 May 2011

chks top hospitals programme

Cambridge University Hospitals – the NHS trust that includes Addenbrooke’s and the Rosie – has been named as one of the country’s top 40 hospitals.

The league table was compiled by CHKS – the UK’s leading independent provider of healthcare intelligence and quality improvement services. The judges looked at 21 key performance indicators covering safety, clinical effectiveness, health outcomes, efficiency, patient experience and quality of care.

Dr Gareth Goodier, chief executive of Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, said: “We’re very pleased to have been included in this list of the UK’s best hospitals. Everyone knows that this is a difficult time for the NHS, but we want to provide the best possible healthcare for our patients. This award demonstrates just how hard our staff have been working to keep us at the top.”

James Coles, director of research at CHKS, said: “Hospitals are accountable to their patients, their families and their local communities to provide a safe environment and high standards of patient care. Our award winners this year share a commitment to driving improvement and engendering a culture of excellence throughout their organisations.”
