Notes:
Patients are seen by consultants in an outpatient clinic. If surgery is recommended, and the patient is deemed fit for a day case procedure, the patient is referred to Day Surgery on the same day to attend pre-operative assessment.
Patients are seen by a nurse to undergo a pre-operative assessment by completing a health care questionnaire and undertaking any necessary pre-operative tests, e.g. blood pressure or blood tests, depending on the type of procedure, anaesthesia, and patient criteria.
Patients are given a date for surgery at the same time as well as receiving further written and verbal information about the procedure on the day of admission and post-operatively.
