About the ward
The Clinical Investigation Ward is a joint venture between Addenbrooke's and the University of Cambridge.
It is one of two wards of the Addenbrooke's Clinical Research Centre (ACRC), which is housed in the Addenbrooke's Centre for Clinical Investigation (ACCI) building.
The ACRC offers two purpose-built research facilities to members of the local research community for patient-centred clinical research projects. Both areas are staffed by experienced, well-qualified NHS staff who have a range of acute, critical care and research skills.
The Unit operates as a day-case unit Monday to Friday 0730 hrs to 1800 hrs.
Finding the Clinical Investigation Ward
The Clinical Investigation Ward (CIW) is located on Level 3 of the Addenbrooke's Centre for Clinical Investigation (ACCI). The ACCI is linked to the rest of the hospital via the 'clown corridor', which runs between the concourse and the Rosie Hospital.
Ward facilities
The facilities offered by the CIW include:
A seven-bed ward - divided into a three and four bedded area.
An endoscopy suite
One side room
One consulting room
Who can use the CIW?
Any member of the local research community who holds an honorary contract with Addenbrooke's can use the facilities of the Centre. This includes physicians, nurses and therapists. The research projects must be patient or volunteer based, protocol driven and have approval from the local research committee. The research focus of the CIW is for investigator-led or industry-sponsored clinical research projects.
