About the ward
The PSSU is part of the Medical Unit and has 18 beds and eight chairs. We have patients attending for a wide variety of treatments, tests and investigations.
Finding the PSSU
The PSSU is located on ward J3 can be found on level 3 of the hospital.
From the main hospital entrance: Turn right as you enter through the revolving door at the hospital main entrance, turn left and walk past the hairdresser, across the corridor and past ward D2 (on your right). Take the corridor in front of you, signposted F and G wards. Continue until you reach a T junction. Turn right and follow the corridor until you reach the lift/stairs on the right hand side. Take the lift/stairs to level 3. Turn left and J3 (PSSU) is in front of you.
If you are visiting a patient who is likely to be hospitalised for two weeks or more, you can get a discounted parking ticket from the main reception. This allows you to exit from the car parks for 14 consecutive days from the day you validate the ticket.

Staff
If you would like to find out 'who’s who’ on the ward, please see the ward notice board. It contains the names and pictures of the staff on the ward.
Nurses’ uniforms:
Ward manager – navy blue
Senior staff nurse/junior sister – royal blue
Staff nurse – white with blue stripes
Health care assistants – white with grey stripes
Student nurses – grey and white
Nurses work three shifts: Early (0700-1500); Late (1400-2130); Night (2100-0730)
During the overlap, we handover your care to the next team of staff. Your named nurse for the shift will come to see you briefly at the start of each shift. Nurse practitioners also work with the consultants and can give you further advice and information about your care and treatment.
Ward assistants and Housekeepers will bring you your meals and drinks and ensure the cleanliness of the ward.
Ward clerks work Mon-Fri: 0800-2000 hrs, and can help with general enquires and make clinic appointments.
Your doctor’s name will be written on the board behind your bed.
On your arrival:
When you arrive, please report to ward reception and you will then be shown to your bed, chair or the waiting area.
We hope your stay will be comfortable. Please do not hesitate to ask any questions. If you or your relative wish to speak to your consultant or other medical staff, please ask for an appointment to be made.
Visiting hours:
PSSU has open visiting but we only allow two visitors at one time.
When you have visitors, please be considerate of other patients, who may be feeling very unwell; a lot of noise or commotion may prevent them from resting.
Please wash your hands prior to entering the ward and use the alcohol hand rub provided at the entrance.

Meal times:
If a meal is missed please let a member of staff know.
Tea rounds are at 1000 and 1500 hours and also with the meals. When you arrive, we will ask you if you have any special requirements.
Ward facilities
Showers are available on the ward.
Toilets: Please ask the ward staff for the nearest visitors’ toilet.
The nearest vending machine for Patientline cards is near the concourse, outside wards C and D, level two.
Your belongings and valuables:
You will have only a small bedside locker to store your personal belongings, so please bring only essential items with you to hospital. We can take care of small amounts of money in the hospital safe but, if possible, please ask visitors to take care of any valuables for you.
Drug rounds
Please try not to interrupt the nursing staff while they are doing the 'drug round' or checking medicines.

Each patient has their own personal telephone number.
If you don't know their personal telephone number you can call the Patientline Customer Care Team:

Concerns, comments and complaints
If you are unhappy with any aspect of your care or the service you receive in your Addenbrooke's outpatient clinic, please speak to a member of clinic staff as soon as possible.
If you feel they cannot help you, or you are not comfortable talking to them, contact the Patient Information and Liaison Service (PALS)
