This department provides a comprehensive service in allergy for adults and children. Most patients are seen as outpatients (in Clinic 2A), but we also have inpatient facilities.
We provide a service for the diagnosis and management of a wide range of allergic disorders, including:
Hayfever
Perennial rhinitis; allergic or non-allergic
Asthma
Eczema
Urticaria and angioedema
Anaphylaxis
Food allergy (all types including peanut and nut allergy)
Drug allergy, including allergy to anaesthetic agents, NSAIDs, antibiotics and local anaesthetics.
For allergy, skin tests and diagnostic challenge tests are performed. There is a specialist nut-allergy clinic and an insect-sting allergy clinic. We provide management plans for anaphylaxis (including training in Epi-pen™ and school visits) and severe reactions, eg glottal oedema. We offer desensitisation for bee-venom and wasp-venom allergy, pollen hayfever and cat allergy.
In patients (i) with severe or poorly controlled disease, eg asthma, rhinitis or eczema, (ii) with multi-system allergic disease, or (iii) where an allergic aetiology is suspected, an allergy referral often identifies common triggers and allows a unified approach to management.
Key contacts:
Please do not use the numbers below for enquiries about the peanut allergy treatment. Dr Clark and his team are no longer recruiting to the peanut allergy trial. They are now working on how to make this treatment widely available to allergy sufferers but this process will take several years. If you have concerns about allergies please contact your GP.
