Dr Sara Booth

Dr Sara Booth has a joint clinical and research role. She is Macmillan Consultant in Palliative Medicine, Clinical Director of Palliative Care at Addenbrooke's, Associate Lecturer, University of Cambridge, Honorary Senior Lecturer at Department of Palliative Care and Policy at King’s College, London.
Sara has a longstanding interest in breathlessness which was stimulated by her time in her first specialist Palliative Care post at St Christopher’s Hospice in London, where she carried out a randomised control trial of effectiveness of oxygen air in the relief of cancer dyspnoea. Sara then moved to Oxford where she was Senior Registrar in Palliative Medicine and first Clinician on the Hospital Palliative Care Support Team. Sara then held an NHS R&D training fellowship, where she completed the preliminary work for founding the breathlessness service with a validation of the shuttle walking test in the assessment of functional capacity for people with breathlessness. Sara was then appointed the first Consultant in Palliative Medicine at Addenbrooke’s NHS Trust and was put in post to set up a multidisciplinary Palliative Care service. Sara then founded a specialist Breathlessness Service and was fortunate to have appointed Petrea Fagan to work with her to develop the BIS. Sara also has a research interest in mindfulness in the management of breathlessness and other chronic conditions.
Dr Janet Ellis

Dr Janet Ellis
Janet joined the Addenbrooke’s Palliative Care team in September 2007. A Chartered Clinical Psychologist, she has extensive experience of working with adults with medical problems. She has also worked in mental health, staff support, and substance misuse. For her doctoral research she conducted the pilot of network support therapy for people with alcohol-related problems. Prior to her career in clinical psychology she worked as a college lecturer in Psychology and has a PGCE (postgraduate certificate in education).

Respiratory Specialist Physiotherapist
Catherine Moffat
Catherine qualified as a Physiotherapist in 2000. She gained extensive experience rotating through all areas of Physiotherapy before specialising in Respiratory. Initially she worked at West Suffolk Hospital in Bury St Edmunds before moving to Addenbrooke’s Hospital in 2003. Prior to joining to the Breathlessness Intervention Service she led the inpatient Medical Physiotherapy Team at Addenbrooke’s Hospital. Catherine has an interest in breathing pattern disorders/ chronic hyperventilation syndrome. She has a diploma in the Buteyko Breathing Technique and is currently working towards a diploma in Counselling Skills. Catherine continues to work in the main Addenbrooke’s Hospital at weekends, providing respiratory physiotherapy to the adult and paediatric wards and intensive care units.
Occupational Therapist and Lead Practitioner
Julie Burkin
Julie joined the BIS / LTCS in August 2009. She qualified as an occupational therapist in 1997 and gained experience in Healthcare for the Elderly, Neurological Rehabilitation and Spinal Injuries before specialising in oncology and palliative care. Julie held the post of chairperson for the College of Occupational Therapists Specialist Section in HIV Oncology and Palliative Care from 2006-2008. She has been involved in setting up occupational therapy services in 2 Hospices and has been team leader for a Day Hospice. From December 2007, Julie spent a 5 month period in Zambia and Namibia, carrying out volunteer teaching projects. Julie came to Addenbrooke's from the Royal Marsden Hospital in London. She has a keen interest in fatigue management and anxiety management and has been involved in evaluating a relaxation service in her previous role.
Research Associate
Harriet McGrath
Harriet McGrath has just graduated from Jesus College, Cambridge where she read Natural Sciences, specialising in Experimental Psychology during her final year. Harriet hopes to eventually pursue a career in Clinical Psychology, however, is currently enjoying gaining experience of research within the NHS whilst visiting patients whenever possible. Currently she is working on the ‘wellbeing’ elements of BIS, specifically on the ‘brief mindfulness based intervention’ (BAMBI). Outside of psychology Harriet enjoys travelling and sport, she has just returned from a ‘rehabilitation through sport’ programme in Uganda with the charity Teams4U.
Pauline Kleanthous
Pauline Kleanthous has a keen amateur interest in medicine and is a PA/medical secretary with 27 years’ experience. Previous posts have included PA cover to Consultants in the private sector. Pauline joined the Temporary Staff Bank Services department at Addenbrooke’s in February 2007 and has spent time on assignment in several departments within the hospital. Pauline is currently assigned to the Breathlessness Intervention Service/Long Term Conditions Service providing 25 hours of secretarial/administration/research cover.
Pauline also owns and runs a lithographic reproduction/publishing company with her husband.
Maureen Frostick
Maureen Frostick has a degree in modern languages and 23 years secretarial experience in the private sector. She joined the Palliative Care Team in Autumn 2008 as P.A./Medical Secretary to Macmillan Consultant, Sara Booth, as she had been actively seeking an opportunity to use her administration skills in a caring profession. Maureen (or her colleague Pauline Kleanthous) will be your first point of contact if you are referred to the Breathlessness Intervention Service (BIS) or Long Term Conditions Service (LTC) and one of them will arrange an appointment for you to see Dr. Booth or one of the other clinicians with the BIS / LTC team.
