Ambulatory service
Ward F2 is a friendly, efficient, six-bedded paediatric ambulatory ward with an adolescent area, where children can be assessed at short notice and attend for blood tests and treatments. We are able to book beds for infusions (e.g. Infliximab, iron and blood transfusions) and see children for insertion of impedance / pH probes to assess gastro-oesophageal reflux, insertion of nasal tubes for radiological investigations and for hydrogen breath tests to assess sugar malabsorption.
Addenbrooke’s Treatment Centre (ATC)
Addenbrooke’s Treatment Centre is a new state-of-the-art centre, which includes the new adult endoscopy suite, and also has facilities for children and young people attending for endoscopy procedures in the Day Surgical Unit on Level 2.
Nutrition nurse specialists
The nutrition nurse specialists are hospital based and part of the paediatric gastroenterology team. They work jointly across different specialties to provide and support a comprehensive artificial nutritional support service. This covers all aspects of tube feeding (enteral) and intravenous feeding (parenteral).
There is close liaison with ward nurses and doctors, dietitians, pharmacist and other multidisciplinary teams to ensure the provision of an efficient and high quality nutrition support service. This extends to facilitating a child’s discharge home. We aim to ensure that home nutritional support is tailored to meet every child’s individual needs. This requires liaison with local community children’s nurses and dietitians to coordinate ongoing nursing input and home delivery services.
We also have a particular responsibility for the education and training on practical aspects of enteral and parenteral feeding for both staff and families.
We aim for regular review through audit, and with the team plan to develop and improve services accordingly.
