Injury

Some seizures may cause severe injury especially if they involve falling. A lot of patients tend to have a warning before a seizure and are able to avoid injury.

Loss of employment

Depending on the type of work you do, a diagnosis of epilepsy could result in loss of or change in employment. People who drive for a living are worse affected. However, most people with epilepsy can remain in employment following diagnosis.

Loss of driving licence

If a patient is diagnosed with epilepsy, they are required by law to stop driving until after a period of 12 months from their last seizure, irrespective of whether this was a major or minor seizure.. Further details on the driving regulations for people who suffer from epilepsy can be obtained from the DVLA website:

> Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA)
