Diabetes renal disease clinic

Diabetes may be associated with complications. One complication of diabetes is renal (kidney) disease.

Diabetes can cause individuals to have protein in their urine, or for their kidneys to filter the blood’s waste products more slowly. Patients with diabetes may have kidney problems unrelated to diabetes.

Excellent blood glucose and blood pressure control lowers the risk of developing renal problems related to diabetes.

In the diabetes renal disease clinic, the objective is to treat patients in order to obtain excellent blood glucose control, and to prevent or treat heart disease, anaemia and bone health.

Diabetes foot problem clinic

Having diabetes can damage the blood and or nerve supply to your feet. If you develop an open sore (ulcer) or infection this can be difficult to heal. We are able to offer treatment in a specialist foot clinic.

Diabetes young adult clinic

Moving up from the children’s diabetes clinic to the full adult clinic can be a daunting prospect. We therefore run a dedicated transitional clinic for young adults with diabetes, aged between 17 and 21 years, to help them bridge the gap.

Cystic fibrosis related diabetes (CFRD)

The CFRD Clinic is held at Papworth Hospital, approximately 20 miles from Addenbrooke’s, for adults with cystic fibrosis who also have diabetes.

As patients with Cystic Fibrosis (CF) live longer, more develop diabetes. One third of adults with CF also have diabetes.

This clinic is a joint clinic with Dr Di Bilton and Dr Charles Haworth.
