The diabetes dietetic team specialises in diabetes, obesity, cardiology and adult metabolics (inborn errors of metabolism).
We work closely within the various multi disciplinary teams providing the above specialist services to the patients under the care of Addenbrooke's Hospital.
Patients can be referred to the team for dietary treatment if they are under the current care of a consultant at the hospital.
Dietary therapy has long been recognised as a corner stone in the management of diabetes, obesity and cardiology. The role of the dietitian is to educate patients about the dietary aspects of the management of their condition and to help the patient to apply this to their own dietary habits and lifestyle.
We have a dietitian dedicated to the cardiac rehabilitation team providing both in and out patient services to those who have been admitted to Addenbrooke's due to heart disease. Those who have had a heart attack or are diagnosed with Acute Coronary Syndrome (ACS) will be tracked and appropriate support offered from diagnosis through the cardiac rehabilitation scheme until discharge.
