Facilities at Addenbrooke's

The recent facilities in the Eye Department, which have been designed around the needs of visually impaired patients, have helped us modernise our eye services, streamline and shorten the patient's journey through the department, and cut waiting times

The Eye Unit

The Eye Unit is on Level 2 on the Outpatient corridor between Outpatients and the main reception. It has its own reception area, operating theatre and a 10-bedded ward. Having a dedicated operating theatre for ophthalmic surgery has allowed us to carry out far more operations than was previously possible.

The Cataract Clinic

The Cataract Clinic is part of the national plan to modernise hospital cataract services across the country and reduce lengthy waiting times. More than 1,500 patients a year have cataract surgery at Addenbrooke's: as a result, 90 per cent of these people report a dramatic improvement to their quality of life. With the new facilities, patients can expect faster, more convenient care, in a clinic specifically designed for people with visual impairment.
