The neurophysiotherapy outpatient’s service at Addenbrooke’s hospital offers specialist assessment and treatment to adults with any form of neurological impairment (for example stroke, TBI, and any other long term neurological diseases) or vestibular impairment resulting in balance and dizziness issues.

 

 

After the initial assessment of 45 mins an individualised treatment plan will then be developed. The service is able to offer a short lived intensive intervention to address a specific neurological problem, and / or on going support / regular monitoring for patients living with a long term neurological or muscular disorder. This may involve advice, hands on treatment, exercise prescription, education, or practical problem solving.

 

We are able to assess for specialist equipment such as functional electric stimulation, and where appropriate referrals are made for other specialist items such as orthotics. The service also provides input to the MND, vestibular and botulinum toxin clinics. We have strong links with the community physiotherapy teams around the locality, as well as working in close partnership with MS specialist nurses, audiologists and neurologists in the hospital.

 

The service is based in the F and G block gym at Addenbrooke's hospital. The gym has a wide range of specialist neuro-rehabilitation equipment including electric standing frames, tilt table, partial body weight support, rehabilitation treadmill and passive / active leg and arm cycle ergometers.
