What is PET/CT?
PET/CT (Positron Emission Tomography and Computerised Tomography) is a scanning method that allows us to see how organs are working.
PET/CT helps us identify organs or tissues that are not working normally. The body is imaged following the injection of a radioactive tracer (most commonly C-11), a form of slightly radioactive sugar. This provides important information about many conditions affecting different organs and these images allow your doctor to plan your treatment more accurately.
Finding the department
There are two PET/CT scanners in Addenbrooke’s Hospital:
PET/CT unit
The PET/CT unit is located within Addenbrooke’s Hospital, close to Oncology and Radiology departments.
Mobile PET/CT scanner
The mobile PET/CT scanner is only available only on Mondays.
The mobile PET/CT scanner is located close to the Addenbrooke's Treatment Centre (ATC). The car park closest to the mobile PET/CT is the Treatment Centre car park (opposite the Addenbrooke’s Treatment Centre).
Drop off parking is available directly outside the Treatment Centre.
