What does a health advisor do?
Health advisors are specially trained in sexual health. You can talk to them in confidence about anything to do with sex, for example:
Can I just talk and will you offer me advice?
At SHAC we are experts in talking about sexual health problems or questions. If necessary, and if it is what you want, we can also arrange for you to speak to other specialists.
What information and advice can I get from SHAC?
We can offer you information and advice on:
I am thinking about starting to have sex, what should I do?
At SHAC, we are friendly and approachable and will be happy to see you no matter how small you think your problem might be. You do not need to have had sex or be in a relationship. No matter what your situation or concern we should be able to help you or tell you about others who can.
Should I talk to my friends, family or my parents or should I talk to someone at SHAC?
If you are worried about your sexual health or relationships, we will be very happy to offer you advice at SHAC. Anything you tell us is completely confidential. We won't tell your parents or general practitioner without your permission and we will always discuss this with you first.
You will probably find that your friends, partner or family will also be very supportive and helpful. They might even have had similar problems to you. Sharing problems can bring people closer and might even improve your relationship with your parents.
If you don't have friends and family, or don't want to talk to them about your problems, come and see us at SHAC anyway.
