Is everything confidential?

We keep only enough information to help us to help you. Our clinic notes are kept separate from other hospital notes and no-one outside the clinic gets to see them. We will only contact your G.P with your permission. In time, these notes are destroyed.

 

 

 

Will my notes be kept private?

During your visit we might put together some notes to help us to help you. These are kept separate from other hospital or doctors notes and no-one except the clinic staff see them unless you give us specific permission.

 

 

 

Who are the staff?

SHAC staff include the receptionists, health advisors, nurses and doctors. We are all experts in discussing sexual health problems, so please do not feel nervous about coming to SHAC or the clinic.

 

 

 

How do I tell you what is wrong and why do the staff at SHAC ask questions?

Almost everyone who comes to see us is a bit embarrassed but:

• You can't shock us
• We won't judge you
• We won't tell you off
• We won't tell anyone else

We want you to have an enjoyable, safe and healthy sex life when you want one. You can ask us any questions you want and you don't have to answer our questions but it helps us if you can tell us what you think is wrong and why

You don't have to use the proper medical words, use the words you are comfortable using, or point to where the problem is. We might ask you about when you have had sex, this is just so we can decide which tests to do and what advice to offer you. We ask you questions so we can get a better idea of what is wrong, so that we can help you.
