Overview:

This unit provides diagnosis and treatment of cancers of the oesophagus and stomach and aims to provide the best radical and palliative care.

 

Facilities in the unit:

• Multidisciplinary team working
  
  
• Screening and surveillance for Barrats oesophagus
  
  
• Gastroscopy, endoscopic ultrasound (EUS) and CT-guided biopsy facilities
  
  
• CT-PET
  
  
• Definitive gastric and oesophageal surgery
  
  
• Radical 3D conformal radiotherapy
  
  
• Chemotherapy for oesophageal and gastric tumours and biological therapy for GISTS
  
  
• Clinical trials of screening, staging, chemotherapy, radiotherapy and biological therapies
  
  
• Oesophageal stenting service and oesophageal brachytherapy (due shortly)
  
  
• Specialist nurse support
  
  
• Palliative care support
  
  
• Familial gastric cancer genetics service

 

Special clinical and research interests:

• Screening and surveillance for pre-invasive disease including Barrats oesophagus
