Addenbrooke's Hospital
Research and Development
The Rosie Hospital
Addenbrooke’s Abroad works to build partnerships (Links) with hospitals and health organisations in resource-poor countries and to promote mutual learning between Cambridge University Hospitals (CUH) and our overseas partners.

Our work helps create new and innovative partnerships with local and international organisations and supports the Framework for NHS Involvement in International Development. CUH is one of few NHS Foundation Trusts to have a dedicated unit supporting global health activity.
"Links allow NHS staff to contribute to the improvement of healthcare worldwide, whilst continuing to serve their own communities. Links motivate staff, enlarge their experience, sharpen their skills and thus help to retain them within each country's National Health Service: the benefits are clearly felt by both English and overseas partners."
Lord Nigel Crisp
Former Chief Executive for the NHS in England
Addenbrooke’s Abroad works to:
Provide a focus for healthcare-related work undertaken overseas by Cambridge University Hospitals and Clinical School staff and facilitate effective sharing and dissemination of the benefits of global health work.

"Even through the language barrier, I learnt that
a smile can go a long way."
Debbie Morgan, Assistant Director of Commissioning,
CUH Finance Department
Addenbrooke’s Abroad is a charity and most overseas volunteers pay their own costs - they do not receive funding from NHS resources. To make a real difference to global health we depend on volunteers both overseas and in the UK.
To date staff and students from across all departments of Cambridge University Hospitals have volunteered in over 25 countries around the world. And you don’t have to work for CUH to volunteer overseas and / or to help with fundraising and other UK based activities.
