Corporate social responsibility

Assessment tool – measuring our performance

To keep us focused and to ensure continuous CSR improvement, the Trust has adopted the Sustainable Development Commission’s Good Corporate Citizenship Assessment Model – a toolkit promoted by both the Department of Health and the NHS Sustainable Development Unit.

The toolkit helps us to measure six specific areas:

  1. Transport
  2. Procurement
  3. Facilities Management
  4. Employment and skills
  5. Community engagement
  6. New buildings

When the new toolkit was first used and benchmarked against other NHS organisations using the model, CUH emerged with an overall score of 47% - some 29 percentage points higher that the national average.

Governance and reporting

Our governance arrangements make sure that we have a clear strategic direction set by our Board of Directors. Our Board of Governors is fully involved in the process and help to monitor activities and report on progress to our 20,000 + Foundation Trust members through their community engagement programme.
