New role for Addenbrooke's chief executive
After nearly six years as chief executive, Dr Gareth Goodier will be leaving Cambridge University Hospitals in June 2012 having accepted a position in a major healthcare organisation in Australia.
Addenbrooke’s and the Rosie have scored top marks in the annual Care Quality Commission Health Check for the second year running.
Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust was rated 'excellent’ for both quality of services and use of resources. The hospitals met all targets and achieved the highest possible scores for safety and cleanliness, standard of care, dignity and respect, and waiting times.
“This has been a year of achievement for Addenbrooke’s and the Rosie," said Dr Gareth Goodier, the Trust’s Chief Executive. “We’ve been busier than ever before, but we’ve kept the top rating – and that shows that this really is one of the country’s leading NHS trusts.
“Patients coming here can feel confident that they’re being treated by the best possible team. We are going from strength to strength – and that’s down to our staff. I’d like to thank everyone who works here for their hard work and commitment – and I want people to know that we are dedicated to putting patients and their families at the centre of everything we do.
Cambridge University Hospitals: rated 'excellent' for both quality of services and use of resources.
“For the second time in three years, we are finalists in the Health Service Journal 'acute organisation of the year’ competition. Earlier in 2008, healthcare analysts CHKS gave us a new award for the best quality of care in the UK. Maternity services at the Rosie are excellent – they rank with the best. Our Emergency Department is top in the region for trauma, and overall this is one of the country’s safest hospitals. Our standardised mortality rate is one of the best in the East of England – which is remarkable given that we take the most complex cases – and is second-lowest among teaching hospitals outside London."
Alan Johnson MP, Secretary of State for Health, said: “Your trust’s services were among the best in the country, and your organisation has also performed well over time. You have achieved a level of performance that all trusts should aspire to."
The Health Check rates hospitals against standards and targets which measure what really matters to patients. In Cambridgeshire, Bedfordshire, Hertfordshire, Suffolk and Norfolk, only one other acute hospital trust scored 'excellent’ in both categories.
