Award for Cambridge University Hospitals Travel Plan

14 October, 2008

Cambridge University Hospitals has won an award for its work to reduce the number of cars on site.

The Access to Addenbrooke’s scheme promotes alternatives to the car among staff and visitors and has seen impressive results.  The number of cars used on campus is down 16 per cent since 2000.

In recognition of the hard work, Cambridge University Hospitals has won a certificate of continued excellence at the Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Workplace Travel Plan Awards.

This summer the Think Green campaign, which encourages an eco-friendly approach to life, launched at Cambridge University Hospitals. The campaign has included a highly successful walk to work day to raise awareness. We also continue to work closely with Cambridgeshire County Council on the Guided Bus and Addenbrooke’s access road projects. A new 80-space secure cycle park and cycle/footpaths have opened and the Liftshare programme launched.

Carin Charlton, hotel services manager, and Katarina McCartney, sustainability project manager, were invited to Peterborough Town Hall where the city’s mayor, Councillor Pat Nash, presented awards.

Katarina said: “We are delighted to have received this award. A lot of hard work has been done to highlight the alternative travel options available to staff, patients and visitors. One of the keys to this success is partnership working with the local authorities, the local public transport providers and having our staff involved in the development of initiatives."
