Tim Wreghitt is Healthcare Scientist of the Year
Tim Wreghitt OBE, consultant microbiologist, has been named as Healthcare Scientist of the Year for 2009.
A former non-executive director at Addenbrooke’s has been appointed as the new Chair of the Princess Alexandra Hospital NHS Trust in Harlow.
Gerald Coteman leaves Addenbrooke's on 1 September, having served on the board since 1999.
Dr Mary Archer, Chairman of Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, said: “Cambridge University Hospitals is greatly indebted to Gerald for his decade of dedicated service to the board and the Trust. He chaired our Audit Committee for some years, and more recently he was the founder chairman of our Finance, Operations and Performance Committee. He has been an energetic champion for the elderly and passionate advocate of equality, diversity and patients’ rights. We wish him every success as the new chairman of Princess Alexandra Hospital."
Speaking of his new role, Mr Coteman said: “I am immensely pleased and privileged to have this opportunity to work towards improving the health of people in West Essex. I am looking forward to taking on this new challenge and working alongside colleagues at the hospital trust and the SHA. Working with the local community and its representatives I believe we can make a significant and lasting impact on health and wellbeing over the next five years.”
Mr Coteman, who lives in Cambridge, is Managing Partner of The Focus Group, business and management consultants. Other business activities include board director appointments at Cambridge Building Society and Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Sports Partnerships Ltd.
He also has extensive public sector experience, especially in healthcare. Before working at Cambridge University Hospitals, he was a non-executive director at North Herts NHS Trust and a board member of Cambridge District Health Authority. Nationally, he is a member of the NHS Confederation Council and the NHS Employers Policy Board.
