Shona Johnstone has stepped down from her role as non-executive director at Addenbrooke’s Hospital.

Shona has been on the board since 2002 and her responsibilities included being chairman of the Patient Experience Committee and the non-executive director lead for children’s services.

She said: “I have greatly enjoyed my seven years on the board. The patient is at the heart of what we do Addenbrooke’s and it has been an honour to contribute to that.”

Shona has decided to leave as she continues to recover from illness.

She added: “Although I am recovering well from my illness, it is clear that I will need to take things at a rather gentler pace over the next few months than I have in the past. My personal experience of the care that I have received has shown what an excellent place Addenbrooke’s is and I would like to thank all the staff who looked after me.”

Shona’s last day at the Trust was Monday 31 August.

Dr Mary Archer, Chairman of Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, said: “We thank Shona most warmly for all she has put into the Trust over the past seven years. We gained many valuable insights through her wide experience of local government and practical common sense. As chair of the Patient Experience Committee, Children's Champion and a member of the Clinical Ethics Forum, she brought energy and focus to improving the care of patients, and her knowledge of green issues made her a valuable member of the Sustainability and Environment Strategy Group. We wish her every success with her responsibilities at the county council, the police authority and EEDA.”
