You are invited to our next Medicine for Members lecture on 16 February 2012 entitled ‘Violence – a role for health?’ by Dr Adrian Boyle, Consultant, Emergency Medicine. The lecture will give an insight into novel interventions that reduce the burden of inter-personal violence.
New Year honour for Richard Howe
Richard Howe, retired executive director at Cambridge University Hospitals, has been recognised in the New Year honours with an MBE for services to the NHS.
Professor Patrick Sissons, Regius Professor of Physic and Head of the School of Clinical Medicine, has been knighted "for services to research and education in Clinical Medicine".
Tim Wreghitt OBE, consultant microbiologist, has been named as Healthcare Scientist of the Year for 2009.
The Healthcare Science Awards highlight the many achievements of healthcare scientists and the contribution that they make by using science and technology to both improve patient care and to deliver innovative services. The winners are chosen by the Department of Health's Chief Scientific Officer, Professor Sue Hill OBE.
Tim has been a Clinical Scientist in the Health Protection Agency and an Honorary Consultant Virologist at Addenbrooke's for over 30 years. He is currently Regional Microbiologist for the East of England.
The awards ceremony was hosted by the Chief Scientific Officer and the journalist and TV presenter Vivienne Parry.
