The Trust has announced the appointment of a new non-executive director.

After graduating from Cambridge, Matthew Bullock joined the CBI, working in industry/ government relations. He then moved to the Barclays group where over 25 years he had a broad banking career, spanning corporate and high-tech banking, investment banking, retail banking, savings and investments and credit risk management. He became a Director of Barclays Banking Division and a Managing Director of BZW and Barclays Capital. He joined Norwich & Peterborough Building Society as Chief Executive in 1999.

He has sat on a number of government and academic boards, including the DTI’s Industrial Development Advisory Board, the Cabinet Advisory Committee on Applied Research and Development, the Judge Business School, Cambridge University Audit Committee and the governing bodies of Imperial College and Leeds University.

Dr Mary Archer, Chairman of Cambridge University Hospitals, said: “Our non-executive directors are a strong team who work for the benefit of the hospitals, our staff, and our patients – and in these challenging times they are instrumental in helping us take the organisation in the right direction. Matthew Bullock’s appointment is very good news for all of us at Addenbrooke’s and the Rosie.”

Non-executive directors sit on the Board of Directors, and are chosen because of their high-level experience and links with the local community. The Board of Directors determines the overall strategic direction of the Trust and is responsible for all operational and financial issues. As a foundation trust, Cambridge University Hospitals also has a Board of Governors, the majority of whom are elected by, and represent, members drawn from the community. As part of their role, the governors appoint the chairman and non-executive directors.
