You are invited to our next Medicine for Members lecture on 16 February 2012 entitled ‘Violence – a role for health?’ by Dr Adrian Boyle, Consultant, Emergency Medicine. The lecture will give an insight into novel interventions that reduce the burden of inter-personal violence.
New Year honour for Richard Howe
Richard Howe, retired executive director at Cambridge University Hospitals, has been recognised in the New Year honours with an MBE for services to the NHS.
Professor Patrick Sissons, Regius Professor of Physic and Head of the School of Clinical Medicine, has been knighted "for services to research and education in Clinical Medicine".
Trust awarded National
E&D Partner status

Cambridge University Hospitals has been awarded NHS Employers Equality and Diversity Partner status for 2010/2011 in recognition of its extensive work in this area. In the submission, Monica Jacot, HR project manager, highlighted the following efforts, among others:
- the Trust's Our Way values and training
- each executive director being responsible for an element of equality and diversity
- single equality scheme and action plan
- ongoing promotion of different cultural and religious feasts and festivals on Connect (see links above)
More than 77 NHS trusts applied, and the Trust was one of only 23 to be awarded Equality and Diversity Partner status.
Gill Bellord, of NHS Employers, said: "The evidence you submitted was informative and the contents demonstrated the enormous commitment of your Trust to embedding equality, diversity and human rights into the core business of your organisation.
"As an NHS Employers Equality and Diversity Partner you will be at the forefront of developing equality, diversity and human rights good practice both within the NHS – and across the wider public sector."
