Consultant ortho-geriatrician Dr Madhavi Vindlacheruvu was named the You Made a Difference Employee of the Year and was described as an ‘inspiration’ by colleagues who ‘takes an active interest in all aspects of patient care’.
Dr Vindlacheruvu has developed the elderly trauma unit which is responsible for the care of elderly patients suffering from hip fractures. The unit has received praise for its performance in the National Hip Fracture Audit.

She said: “It was a fantastic shock. It really was a huge honour to be mentioned. Even actually receiving the award back in February was probably one of the nicest things that I have received in my entire career. It’s the perfect end to a fantastic year.
“We’ve done really well with hip fracture care and have received various commendations for our low mortality rates and reduced length of stay. But this couldn’t have been achieved without the rest of the team. As a geriatrician you can never do anything on your own. It is a real team effort.”
The awards are a chance for staff to come together to celebrate success throughout the year.
Prizes are given in the following categories:
Chief executive Dr Gareth Goodier opened proceedings and said that although we had faced a difficult year there was lots to celebrate. He listed several achievements the Trust and departments have received and said: “Let’s take a couple of hours to celebrate the many success stories we have in the Trust.”
Chairman Dr Mary Archer closed the ceremony by thanking all staff for their hard work and living the Trust values of kind, safe and excellent.
