I have heard of apprenticeships – what are they?
The apprenticeship posts available at CUH will give you the opportunity to gain practical experience and knowledge, working alongside our staff and supported by a mentor within the area you work.
An apprenticeship is a set of qualifications referred to as a ‘framework’:
Cambridge Regional College (CRC) (the learning provider) provides the knowledge and develops skills whilst CUH (the employer) provides the practical experience to put those skills into practice. Training can be classroom based, in a workshop or in the workplace, depending on the subject.
What will my hours be?
Your hours of work will be 35 per week (this includes any time you may need to spend in a classroom). If you need to work part time for any reason we will consider this depending upon your circumstances and the role you occupy.
How long will my apprenticeship last?
An apprenticeship will last for 12 months.
How much will I get paid?
You will receive a payment of £100 per week for the first 6 months and £120 per week for the following 6 months. This is based on a 35 hour week and will be pro-rata for those on a part-time contract. You will also be entitled to payment for public holidays and annual leave of up to 27 days.
What other benefits will I receive?
Is an apprenticeship at CUH right for me?
The Trust and Cambridge Regional College will fully support you in your apprenticeship but it is important to know that this is an exciting opportunity that you must take full ownership of. We expect our apprentices to meet the following behaviours:
I have a degree, can I take an Apprenticeship?
No. This is due to funding stipulations.
What is Our Way?
One of the key behaviours we expect from our Apprentices at CUH is the clear understanding of Our Way, which is detailed below.
Working at CUH is about providing great patient care in one of the best hospitals in the NHS; but it is also about you - the qualities and skills you bring to your role in the Trust and the support, development and job satisfaction you expect in return. It is about sharing common priorities for improvement and embracing our Trust values – kind, safe and excellent – not only in caring for our patients but also respecting each other as individuals and working together as colleagues.
Our way describes CUH – our purpose and role as a Trust, our vision for development in the future, our priorities for improving patient care, and our values - kind, safe and excellent - which define the way we work and behave towards our patients and each other as colleagues.
For staff at CUH this is Our way of working, Our way of behaving, Our way of striving for excellence in all we do – for our patients, for staff, for our hospitals and for our community.
At application and interview stage we will be looking for apprentices who understand and show an appreciation of the Trust’s main aims and values.
