Work–life balance

See your future with us

Our policies and benefits packages are designed to support a healthy balance between work and home life. We offer a generous annual leave entitlement, flexible working and other special leave schemes.

Annual leave

All new employees are entitled to a generous 27 days’ annual leave plus general public holidays in their first year of service (this is on a pro-rata basis for part-time staff). Entitlement increases to a maximum of 33 days on achieving 10 years’ of NHS service.

Flexible working

Our service to patients must always take priority but we will consider your working preferences and we have a flexible working policy to support this. Our recent staff survey indicated that around 75% of our staff is working flexibly.

Special leave

Our special leave schemes allow you to plan time off for your home life and personal development or to take emergency leave when you most need it.

Family-friendly leave schemes

  • Maternity and paternity leave.
  • Parental leave (unpaid, available to parents with children under 16).
  • Carers leave (for staff with dependents or elder care responsibilities).
  • Adoption leave.
  • Special leave for in vitro-fertilization (IVF) and other fertility treatment.

Other leave schemes

  • Carers leave (for staff with dependents or elder care responsibilities).
  • Career-break scheme (a break in service to fulfil domestic commitments or for other reasons as agreed by your manager).
  • Special Time Out scheme (for employees with over two years' continuous service to have time off for up to one year. Leave is granted at the discretion of the manager, for reasons such as eldercare, voluntary work or travel.)

All leave policies and options for flexible working can be obtained from the Human Resources department or via our internal communications network. To learn more, please contact HR Consult.
