For newly qualified practitioners in their first 12 month preceptorship
Cambridge University Hospitals is to be one of the few Trusts in England to pilot NHS Scotland's new innovative programme 'Flying Start' for newly qualified practitioners in their first 12 month preceptorship.
'Flying Start' provides supported learning and development underpinned by web based modules, active mentorship and portfolio development, easing the transition from student to confident and competent practitioner.
This unit is designed to help you to further develop the clinical skills required for your new role. The unit integrates knowledge and skills from all the other units in the ‘Flying Start NHS’ programme and helps you develop your clinical skills in a structure and safe environment, supporting you to be able to deal with increasingly complex situations within your first year of practice.
This unit is designed to encourage you to enhance your communication skills within your professional role, integrating materials from all the other learning units throughout your first year.
It is essential that you are aware of the multi-professional arena in which you will practice. Changes to the current roles and responsibilities within healthcare professions ultimately means that you will see overlap between your role and that of other professionals. At the same time there may be definite differences between the roles, which will benefit patients/clients and their families.
Throughout this unit you will be helped to progressively work through the issues involved in providing safe and effective practice. It is essential that you can work with your professional frameworks, employ local policies and protocols and use your knowledge and skills to ensure your practice is delivered safely and effectively.
This unit is designed to encourage you to enhance your repertoire of skills and knowledge in relation to critical analysis of research and to use these to underpin your judgments in respect of evidence-based practice
This unit is designed to encourage you as a newly qualified practitioner to further explore equality and diversity within your healthcare setting. It will assist you to become more knowledgeable and confident about incorporating the principles of equality and diversity into your practice
This core unit of the ‘Flying Start programme’ will encourage you to examine critically the concepts of reflection in order to develop further insights into the impact that reflective practice can have on the quality of care you provide in the health and social care setting.
A crucial feature of competence and continuing professional development is a professional’s capacity to learn. This unit will encourage you to develop the skills and knowledge to be a lifelong learner.
The focus of this unit is to help you prepare for, plan and start your journey. You have joined a large and diverse organisation where opportunities to develop your career in many direction exist.
