You made a difference: November award winners

November 2009

Rajendranath Daby - Senior Staff Nurse

Raj Daby joined the Trust in 2003 and earlier this year was appointed as one of six Senior Staff Nurses, who are placed daily or weekly wherever demand is greatest. He received his first nomination a few months ago from a patient for his excellent personal skills: warm, friendly yet professional.

To receive a second nomination six months later is an excellent achievement. This nomination was from a relative of a patient, who said that Raj was caring and also possessed great skills in dealing with relatives. Nothing was too much trouble and she wished that Raj was with her sister all the time.

Melissa Thorn - Clinic 1A Receptionist

Melissa did art and design at college and joined the Trust just over a year ago while thinking about possible career directions. Now, though, she loves the job and is interested in staying in the NHS and training to be a manager.

Her manager, Caroline Harper, says that Melissa will go out of her way to help other staff and patients. She is also calm, welcoming, efficient and dependable.

Callie Clow, who nominated Melissa for this award, says: "Melissa's customer service skills are the most excellent I have ever seen and she is able to deal with aggressive or unhappy patients in a very efficient manner.

"She is the youngest staff member in the clinic and she always strives to treat both colleagues and patients with the utmost respect and constantly looks at ways to improve the service. From only a year of working with Melissa it is clear that she will go very far within the Trust."
