This month there were 50 nominations considered for the You Made a Difference award.
The winners were Sonia Grant, deputy operational matron, and Samantha Wilson, midwifery sister.
Sonia Grant
Sonia joined the Trust in March 2008. She worked in respiratory and cardiology before joining the ops centre where she provides a support role assisting with overall flow and safety of patients.

Sonia Grant with her award
She received her nomination for this award from Guy Blackwell who was a staff nurse with her on the winter contingency ward. He said: "Sonia took control of the winter contingency ward during the particularly difficult and demanding transitional period soon after it was being formed on EAU4.
"Her presence as ward manager reassured and encouraged the ward staff, making a huge difference to morale. Always approachable, supportive and simply unflappable, she was an inspiration to the hard pressed staff. Truly, she made a difference."
Dr Archer presented the award, commenting on her pleasure at seeing so many people turn up to support their colleagues' success. She also spoke on behalf of Julie Clayton, operations centre manager, who wanted to express her pride in Sonia:
"I am extremely thankful to Sonia for the way she moved to EAU4 with next to no notice and managed the ward so well. The feedback regarding her supportive nature and management skills have been very positive – you really deserve this award."
On accepting her award, Sonia said: "I am very proud, but I really couldn't have done it without the support of my colleagues. Thank you to everyone who nominated."
Samantha Wilson

Samantha Wilson receives her award from Dr Goodier and Dr Archer
Samantha joined CUH in 1992 as an orthopaedic nurse. She then trained as a midwife and joined the Lady Mary ward in 1996, before moving to the delivery unit in 2002.
Kate Evans, clinical services manager for maternity, said of Samantha: "Apart from her daily duties, Sam is involved in preparing policies and procedures, and also leaflets which are given to patients. She is an excellent mentor to our students, is always cheerful and a great example to us all."
Samantha received her nomination from a colleague, Karen Carter, who couldn't attend due to working night shifts. Her nomination was read out by Dr Archer, and said "I am an MCA on the delivery unit and was working alongside Sam with a patient that had been transferred to us from another hospital. The night turned out to be a very upsetting and traumatic experience for the patient we were looking after and I found it very hard to deal with.
"Sam was an inspiration to me; not only was she professional, caring, compassionate, and above all a tremendous support to the patient; she also found time to give me hugs and dry my tears for me. I think Sam deserves this award as she made a difference to the patient and to me."
Upon hearing that Samantha had won the award, Karen sent in the following message: "I am over the moon that Sam has won. She has been an inspiration to me at work over the past few months and she deserves this more than anything. I will be thinking of her today."
After receiving her award from Dr Archer, Samantha humbly stated: "I'm just a small part of a big team who make a difference. It's thanks to everyone really for their hard work and support."
