CUH in top five responding to patient opinions

Patient Opinion today has named CUH as one of the five top hospitals for responding to comments and quality measures.

The research, published in Health Service Journal, compared a set of quality measures with a rating based on the strength of response by hospital trusts to comments left on the Patient Opinion and NHS Choices sites. It gave trusts a score for their response to each story and aggregated them into a total.

Cambridge University Hospitals is one of five trusts rated highest on the measures.

Lee Bennett, CUH Assistant Director of Patient Experience and Public Engagement, said: 

"The published research shows that we are among the best in the country at acting upon and responding to our patients and the public.

“We appreciate all forms of patient and public feedback and the development of patient and public opinion websites is something we have embraced. If patients, carers or relatives take the time to post feedback comments on these websites then we ensure that we use this information wisely, as is our duty.

“We always highlight comments to the senior nursing, medical and management teams for the areas involved and always endeavour to post a helpful response.”

The research was commissioned by healthcare consultancy ZPB and Simon Jones, chair in healthcare management and policy at the University of Surrey, and examined 4,000 patient stories posted on the two websites.
