He is is currently Adjunct Professor at the University of Western Sydney and has won over a million Australian dollars in research grant funding.

The masterclass was concerned with making practice-focused research happen in a busy clinical world, and looked at practical ways in which nurses and AHPs can turn a good idea into a funded, happening study.

One Addenbrooke's nurse who attended commented: "Inspirational...[He] made me believe I need to carry out research and I can do it." Another delegate said: "It's encouraged me to start tomorrow - as research is not as daunting you think."

Dr Mary Archer, the Chairman, attended part of the afternoon session and later thanked Prof Darbyshire for his "practical and energising masterclass": "The Trust would like more nurses and other healthcare professionals to be research-active, and you will undoubtedly have sown that vital thought 'I could do this and it might be fun' in a lot of minds," she said.

There will be another Research Professional Workshop for on 27 November, but it is already fully booked. The next workshop will be held in March.

Any Trust staff who would like to find out more should contact Sara Jones, Project Manager Research Competencies on ext 2661 or by email.

The masterclass was sponsored by West Anglia CLRN, the research & development department at Addenbrooke's and the NIHR Research Design Service for the East of England.
