£110 million health research fund confirms elite biomedical status for CUH
Cambridge University Hospitals and the University of Cambridge have been awarded a record share of an £800 million government research fund, confirming the city’s status as one of the country’s elite Biomedical Research Centres.
Non-smoking, healthy male volunteers are needed to take part in a research study into the variation of fats in the bloodstream.
The Medical Research Council (MRC), one of the Trust's partners on campus, is carrying out the research.
Results from this study will provide valuable information that will support future research about lipid levels (fats) in certain diseases such as cancer, heart disease and Alzheimer's.
In order to measure this researchers will need to collect blood samples from healthy, non-smoking male volunteers between the ages of 40-65 years old, who have a BMI of 18.5-25kg/m2. The study will require three visits to the research centre at MRC Human Nutrition Research over a seven week period where blood samples will be collected at various times during the day. Lunch will be provided as well as a sandwich or snack at the end of the test day. In recognition of volunteer's time commitment an honorarium plus reasonable travel expenses will be paid.
