Visiting restrictions in place due to flu and winter vomiting

06 March 2012

There is a lot of flu in the community and to protect our patients we would ask you not to visit the hospitals if you have had flu-like symptoms.

If you have flu-like symptoms and are concerned about your health please telephone your GP or contact NHS Direct.

Catch it, bin it, kill it:

  • germs spread easily so please carry tissues and use them to catch your cough or sneeze
  • dispose of dirty tissues as soon as possible
  • clean your hands thoroughly and regularly with soap and water or alcohol hand gel

Please remember that visiting restrictions are in place to try and limit the spread of norovirus. If you are planning to visit the hospitals please keep in mind the following:

  • visiting restrictions are in place to help protect you and our other patients – a maximum of two adult visitors (relatives/carers) per patient are allowed from 15:00-17:00 and 19:00-20:00
  • children should not visit the hospital because many schools are experiencing cases of norovirus and it’s important to try and limit the spread of infection
  • please do not visit if you have had sickness or diarrhoea in the last 48 hours or have been in close contact with someone who has been sick
  • all visitors must wash their hands thoroughly with soap and water on entering and leaving the ward

Thank you for your support in helping us restrict the spread of this virus, it is greatly appreciated.
