Information Governance is a framework that ensures personal and corporate information is dealt with legally, securely, efficiently and effectively to appropriate ethical and quality standards. Cambridge University Hospitals has its own Information Governance team who ensure this framework is adhered to throughout the organisation. They provide training to all staff ensuring they comply with the law and best practise.
Aims
Above all, Information Governance makes sure that information is recorded, stored and shared in a way that optimises the quality of patient care. Achieving efficiency and accuracy within these areas helps improve the speed and diligence with which we treat patients.
What are the Standards and Requirements that make up Information Governance?
Information Governance ensures all of these requirements are met by raising awareness about data protection, confidentiality and information security, and by performing audits to ensure standards are maintained.

To improve the service and quality of your care a new computer network is being developed nationally that will phase out the need for paper and film records. The network will hold your entire patient record to allow Hospitals, GP’s and chemist’s secure access to your health records to improve information sharing across the NHS.
