Maternal fetal assessment unit (MFAU)

The Rosie

Tel: 01223 217 626

The MFAU is a day unit for women who need additional monitoring in pregnancy. Women may be referred to MFAU by their midwife, GP or obstetrician if there is a concern about their pregnancy. Women may also self-refer by phoning the unit on the number above. The MFAU accepts women who are more than 13 weeks pregnant and who have problems such as abdominal pain, bleeding, reduced movements, high-blood pressure etc. After review by a midwife, women may be referred to the obstetric team for assessment.

If you self-refer to MFAU, one of our midwives will assess you over the phone and discuss the most appropriate place for you to attend. It may be more appropriate for you to attend your GP surgery or to see your community midwife. Appointment times are not generally given for the MFAU, therefore some waiting time is likely.
