Journey boxes

Neonatal Services

Traumatic situations such as having your baby admitted to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit can greatly contribute to parents forgetting the first moments of life memories. For this very reason a Journey box is offered to all parents whose babies have been on the Neonatal unit for more than two days.

Parents find it helpful to collect items that remind them of the early days of their baby's life.  We encourage you to collect significant objects for your baby's journey box for example name tags, small dry nappy, hats, maybe some tubes that we throw away etc. anything that will help you remember these first days. Photos are really helpful to keep in the box.

You may also wish to keep a diary or journal of your routines, your thoughts and feelings to read later.

Significant objects may also be helpful to show your baby when they are older.
