Involvement in research

Participation in research projects

The Rosie is a large regional teaching hospital caring for women from the local area and from around the region. As you would expect from such a large and diverse hospital there are many research projects ongoing at any time many of these research projects help us to maintain our high standards of care throughout the network.

As a regional Neonatal Intensive Care Unit there are usually at the very least two studies ongoing at any time. There is a very high probability that you will be asked if your baby could be included in one of these.

Participation in one study does not automatically exclude your baby from another.

As the parent it is your decision whether your baby is included or not. Participating or not does not have any bearing on your babies care all our patients are treated with the same dedication.

For you to give consent you will be given as much information as possible. This will be done by a one-to-one discussion with the person involved in the research project and written information will also be available. If you agree to your baby being part of a research project you will be asked to sign a consent form.

Even if you have signed and agreed to take part you always have the freedom to withdraw your baby at any time.

Please feel free to ask any questions you may have we will always do our best to answer them with as much information as possible.
