Acute Neonatal Transport Service

(ANTS)

ANTS is the regional transport team for East Anglia based in the Rosie Hospital on the Addenbrooke's Hospital campus site in Cambridge.

We specialise in providing emergency transport for acutely sick new born babies requiring specialist care within the East of England.

  • There are 2 types of transfer we carry out:
Emergency transfers for very sick babies that require a more specialist treatment at another hospital

  • Elective or back transfers to transport recovering babies back to the hospital nearest to their homes

Currently our service operates over a 12 hour period providing a potential of two emergency and one elective teams per day.

There are two types of transfer teams.

  • A dual clinician/emergency team will consist of one Specialist Registrar or a Neonatal Nurse Practitioner and one Specialist Neonatal Nurse

  • A single clinician/elective team will consist of one Specialist Neonatal Nurse.

The Ambulance element of our service is provided by the East of England Ambulance Trust.

In 2007 ANTS received 1000 transport referrals. 606 transfers were completed of which 365 were completed by dual clinician teams and 241 were completed by single clinician teams.

EBS (Emergency Bed Service) for the East of England

EBS assists with the location of cots within the hospitals in our region and London. If a specific cot is required by a referring hospital that isn't available in the region then the EBS Co-ordinators will locate a cot outside our region which is as close to the Babies home where possible.

The EBS Co-ordinators will manage all transfer request calls for the ANTS team and carry out all ambulance bookings.
